George R. Pellack, 96, Former Fair Lawn Borough Manager

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- George R. Pellack, of Fair Lawn, died Saturday, July 30. He was 96.

He was born April 20, 1920, in Clifton. 

Pellack graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in accounting, attending night school on the GI Bill while working a couple of jobs. Working as an accountant in 1958, he applied for and accepted a position as treasurer for the Borough of Fair Lawn. His performance brought a promotion to acting borough manager, which was shortly followed by another promotion to permanent borough manager.

He served in that role for 17 years. Working with the mayor and council, they completed major infrastructure projects, such as building a new municipal building and town library, and completing water and sewage projects. 

After retiring from the borough in 1975, Pellack worked for Diamond Productions Inc., in Wayne, as vice president of operations.  

His activities included being a member of the Rotary Club (awarded Paul Harris Fellow), Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), Fair Lawn PBA, American Legion, and coach of Little League Baseball. 

He is survived by his wife, Rita Morgello Pellack; children, Geraldine Gutierrez, Richard Pellack and Virginia Elwell; stepsons, George and Gary Morgello; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his first wife, Matilda Winters. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from  4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Vander Plaat Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
