Elizabeth DeSousa, 90, Fair Lawn Resident

FAIR LAWN, N.J. – Elizabeth (Velthaus) DeSousa, of Fair Lawn, died Monday, June 13. She was 90.

Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., she resided in Fair Lawn for 58 years. She was a parishioner of St. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Fair Lawn, where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Fair Lawn Live Wires. She enjoyed reading gardening, embroidery and spending time with family and friends.

She was the wife of the late Horace DeSousa; mother of Richard DeSousa, and his wife, Patricia, Elizabeth Thaler, and her late husband, Robert, Joanne Cannata, and her husband, Jay, Catherine Diffin, and her husband, Robert, Carol DeSousa, and her fiancé, Paul Wickman and Christine Havlicek; sister of Gertrude, Linda and Edward and Catherine Velthaus; sister-in-law of Jewel Hyman and the late Audley and David DeSousa; grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of six.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral mass is planned for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 15-05 St. Anne St., Fair Lawn. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to St. Anne’s Parish Capital Campaign would be appreciated.
