GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- David A. Miller, of Glen Rock, died Nov. 2. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 3, 1931, in the Bronx. He graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School and New York University.
Miller was a supervisor of children with retarded mental development for the New York City Board of Education. While his daughters were young, he also worked as a camp director in the Adirondacks so his family could spend summers in the country.
In 1977, he earned a doctorate in education from Rutgers University. After retiring from the New York City school system, he became an adjunct professor at Montclair State University. Most recently, he taught an adult education class on music in the movies at Bergen Community College. He and his wife traveled every summer, living for months in locations throughout the world.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Dorothy Miller; brother, Leonard; and sister, Ruth (Lazarow).
He is survived by his wife, Sherell; two daughters, Linda Esler (Ed) and Margaret Sanders (Steve); four grandchildren, Scott Sanders (Amy) , Zach Esler (Rebecca), Josh Sanders (Jennifer) and Jacqueline Dunkelman (Josh); and six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Zoe, Maya, Logan, Wyatt and Nora.
