Newton HS Student Killed, 2 Seriously Injured In Sussex County Crash

White ribbons will be tied around Newton to honor a 17-year-old high school student who died in a car crash over the weekend.

Alexis Faye, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene after the Mercedes Benz she was riding in veered off the road and overturned Saturday around 5:40 p.m. in Fredon, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said.

A teen was behind the wheel of the car headed northbound on Route 611,Peele said. He was taken via helicopter along with a 16-year-old female passenger to Morristown Medical Center with serious injuries, Peele said. 

Anthony Burke, 17 of Newton -- the driver -- and were taken via helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, Peele said.  A fourth occupant, 17, sustained minor injuries, the sergeant said.

Faye's mother, Joan Faye, is a Newton Board of Education member. The accident occurred the day after Newton High School's junior and senior prom.

The crash was under investigation as of Sunday afternoon.
