Jackson was diagnosed with a form of pediatric cancer that affects roughly 600 babies each year, called "neuroblastoma."
Eight weeks and 3 rounds of chemotherapy since the devastating diagnosis, 2-month-old Jackson is on the mend and his battle with cancer has inspired a wave of action on social media.
More than $67,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe page established for the baby, and more than 3,400 Facebook users are keeping tabs on #jacksonstrong.
"The outpouring of support has just been amazing," Jackson's aunt, Stacie Drummond, told Daily Voice. Drummond has been selling #jacksonstrong bracelets in Fair Lawn to help pay for her nephew's medical bills.
"Every day, [Tara] gets gifts and packages in the mail from people she does not even know. It is really nice to see the the support. I think it helps us all as a family."
One person in particular who has come to Jackson's aid is Fair Lawn Mayor John Cosgrove, who is organizing a March fundraiser for the Walsh family with the Fair Lawn Knights of Columbus.
Tara Walsh — who works at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Fair Lawn — is also in the process of establishing a foundation for children with pediatric cancer.
Baby Jackson's cancer is shrinking and his doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center said he has a survival rate of 90%, Drummond told Daily Voice.
"There is a long road ahead of the Walsh family, and we don't know what the future will bring with medical bills or out of pocket expenses," the GoFundMe page says. "This page is geared to prepare the family for their future."
Email Stacie Drummond to purchase a bracelet.
