GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- The Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum have already raised more than $85,000, but intensive fundraising is still needed, and the group is having a Thielke Arboretum 2016 Kickoff Event on Thursday, April 7.

As reported in the Daily Voice in February, the Glen Rock Council voted down a $238,000 bridge loan that would have helped fund the Thielke Arboretum Education Center. FOGRAS estimates that an estimated $150,000 is still needed.

The event will include drink tickets, appetizers, live music and door prizes. Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer is also scheduled to speak. The organization will also be selling pavers and collecting contributions.

There is no cost for admission.

FOGRAS isn't shy about its goals: "Please consider bringing a checkbook," organizers note, but "no amount is too small." The group has a goal for the fundraiser of $40,000. All donations are tax-deductible.

Backyard Living, at 235 Franklin Ave., in Ridgewood, is hosting the fundraiser. The store will be closed for this event. The event will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and folks are welcome to drop in at any point.
