GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- A Youth Fishing Derby is coming to Glen Rock on Sunday, June 26, at the Thielke Arboretum Pond.
The event is for kids 5 to 13 years old. The pond has been stocked specifically for the event. There will be prizes for the best fisherperson in three age categories, plus a prize for the most fish.
The registration fee is $10 per child. The event is limited to 40, and pre-registration is required: do so here. Profits from the event will support the Arboretum's Environmental Education Center Fund.
Folks should bring their own fishing gear and bait, but organizers will have some extra bait. It's a rain or shine event..
Participants are also welcome to stay, after the event, and continue to fish. "The Arboretum is beautiful this time of year," organizers note. "Bring some sandwiches and drinks, and stay to enjoy a picnic lunch."
The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon, with check-in beginning at 10.
