Earlier this month an abstract symbol was found spray-painted at several places in Nutley, including Radcliffe Elementary School, where the C-shaped graffiti was discovered on an outside wall.
The graffiti also popped up on Harrison Street, Ravine Avenue and Prospect Street. All of the incidents were believed to be related.
On Wednesday, police charged a 21-year-old township man, Christian Providel, in connection with the incidents. He faces seven counts of criminal mischief.
The investigation is continuing and may lead to others being charged, police said.
