An Irvington man who swallowed approximately 20 envelopes of heroin was revived by Newark police -- and subsequently hospitalized and charged, authorities said.

Anthony Moore, 30, swallowed an estimated 20 glassine envelopes of heroin after police spotted him in a drug deal near Mountain View Avenue and  shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in a release.

Moore was asked to spit out the envelopes but refused and continued to resist arrest, police said.

An ambulance was called after Moore began vomiting and convulsing, authorities said.

Moore was transported to University Hospital by police prior to EMS arrival when he became unresponsive, authorities said.

While being treated, Moore regurgitated several envelopes of the heroin he had swallowed, authorities said.

Moore was arrested after he was determined to be in stable condition. He faces various CDS possession and distribution charges.

“I commend these officers for their swift actions in saving this suspect’s life,” said Ambrose.

“Due to the life-saving efforts of these officers, this man is alive today.”
