Officers in NPD1 spotted the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima driving erratically near Bergen Street and South Orange Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

Then juveniles then abandoned the cars -- stolen out of Newark and Jersey City, respectively -- on Broome Street, Ambrose said. The drivers got out of the cars and tried to blend in with the crowd.

Police in the helicopter followed the suspects from the air and directed ground officers to where the suspects were heading on foot.

The suspects were arrested within minutes, a few blocks away at Montgomery and Barclay streets, Ambrose said.

Director Ambrose urges anyone with information regarding criminal activity to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
