Robert Rasczyk, 34, of East Orange was being held at the Essex County jail on Nutley charges of burglary, receiving stolen property and aggravated assault on a police officer. He also faces additional charges in Belleville, Nutley police said.

Rasczyk stole a car and committed burglaries in Nutley July 12, police said. He was identified by Belleville police when he used a stolen credit card at a convenience store, police also said.

Racszyk was found at a motor home in Belleville and fled when police went to arrest him, leaving behind items taken from his burglaries, police said. He was later arrested in Newark with help from the FBI.

Public Safety Director Alphonse Petracco urged residents to keep cars locked, noting that burglars will routinely try car door handles, especially if items of value are visible.

He also reminded residents not to leave keys or key fobs in cars.
