A 40-year-old Irvington man was shot and killed in Newark Monday night, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Both men were shot on Maple Avenue around 7 p.m. One man was hit in the leg and is in stable condition, authorities said. His name has been withheld.

Murad Harris, the other victim, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information on the shootings is being asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tip line at 877-1-877-TIPS-4EC (877-847-7432).

Harris is the second person lost to gun violence in Newark in recent days. Over the weekend, 25-year-old Tyshawn Christian was shot and killed on Smith Street. That shooting also remains under investigation.
