Fire At Vacant Newark House Spreads, Damages Occupied Home; 5 Displaced

A fire that broke out at an abandoned home in Newark’s North Ward Tuesday night spread to an adjacent home, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to 221 N. 5th Street around 11:10 p.m. and quickly upgraded the fire to two alarms after an occupied, adjacent home began to burn. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour.

No one was hurt. The Newark Fire Division is investigating.
