Deputies executed a search warrant at a home on North 9th Street just before 11:30 a.m., said Sheriff Armando B. Fontoura in a statement. During the search, investigators say they found "over 400 vials" of crack cocaine and "around 200 decks" of heroin on the property.

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the bust, the sheriff said — 44-year-old Kareem W. Koon of East Orange, 44-year-old Jamar Horne of East Orange, 26-year-old Alkadair V. Ports of Newark, 41-year-old Jerome Logan of Fords, and 42-year-old Robert Walton of Rahway.

Each man is charged with two counts of drug possession, two counts of possession with intent to distribute, and related offenses, authorities wrote. Walton faces an additional charge of evading arrest, they added.

"The work done continuously by these Sheriff’s Officers is commendable," said Sheriff Fontoura. "They not only removed five dangerous people from the neighborhood — they prevented dangerous substances from reaching the community.”
