Two women were hospitalized for injuries suffered in a fire in Newark Sunday, authorities said.

The fire started at 39 Sunset Ave. around 12:35 p.m. and spread to a vacant building next door before it was extinguished shortly before 1 p.m.

In addition to the civilians who were hurt, two firefighters suffered shoulder injuries. One was treated at the scene and the other firefighter was taken to University Hospital.

The cause of the fire, which displaced five adults and a child, was under investigation by the arson unit.
