Filming for the remake of the popular musical, which is being directed by Steve Spielberg, continues in the city this week, police said.

As a result, South Orange Avenue between Alexander Street and Brookdale Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. through Thursday.

The city has recently hosted other major productions this year, including the Sopranos prequel "The Many Saints of Newark" and the HBO miniseries "The Plot Against America."

Both productions are not just using Newark as a backdrop but are also set in the city: "Saints" takes place partly in Newark during the 1960s as it chronicles the early life of Tony Soprano, the Jersey mobster made famous by the HBO series.

"Plot," by the late author and Newark native Philip Roth, centers on a fictionalized version of Roth's family during World War II, when they were living in the city's Weequahic section.
