Lyndhurst Police Lieutenant Busts Pair In MV Stop
A Lyndhurst police lieutenant out on patrol found an unlicensed driver wanted on multiple warrants and a passenger carrying Ecstasy, authorities said.
Lt. Paul Haggerty stopped their 1997 Ford Explorer – which had a cracked windshield and no front license plate -- at the corner of Ridge Road and Page Avenue, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said.
Officers James Colacci and Brian Kapp arrived soon after, he said.
The driver, Kevin Martinez, 25, of Newark, had outstanding warrants out of Toms River and Newark, the lieutenant said.

Lyndhurst Police Chase Ends In Crash, Arrest
A car thief was captured by Lyndhurst police after crashing a brand-new SUV into a traffic signal during a pre-dawn chase, authorities said Monday.
Fredy Felix, 18, of Passaic started out walking the streets of Lyndhurst around 4:30 a.m., testing door handles for unlocked vehicles, several of which he found, Detective Sgt. Vincent Auteri said.
After taking an assortment of valuables from those cars, the sergeant said, Felix got into an unlocked 2019 Toyota RAV 4 purchased just days earlier -- and found the valet key in the glove compartment.

Lyndhurst Crash Sends Car Into One Church, Truck Into Other: Driver, 92, OK
LYNDHURST, N.J. -- Two tree company drivers accidentally sandwiched a 92-year-old motorist between their trucks, sending his car onto the stairs of one Lyndhurst church and one of theirs into another one across the street, police said.
The elderly driver wasn't seriously injured in Friday's mishap, authorities said.
However, the United Presbyterian Church on Ridge Road sustained some damage, including a "Spring Fling & Craft Fair" sign that police helped reattach to the portico.
The first truck had stopped, as did the passenger vehicle, Police Chief James O'Connor said.
