Officer David Moscaritolo stopped the southbound truck, which had its headlights off, at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Police Chief Michael Coppola said.
A rear license plate was mounted over another one and the registration didn't match, he said.
Backups arrived as the plate came back stolen, Coppola said.
The driver, 45-year-old James Lombardi of Staten Island, was carrying a spring-loaded Mini Joker switchblade knife, he said.
Coppola said a consented search of the vehicle turned up:
a clear plastic bag of heroin;
a clear plastic bag of cocaine;
two small yellow suspected Hydromorphone pills;
an orange straw with drug residue;
a pack of EZWider rollilng paper;
a glass tile with drug residue
A backpack in the rear held the matching stolen license plate, Testosterone Cypionate anabolic steroid, three hypodermic syringes, three prescription medication bags bearing other people's names, a wooden case containing a metal pipe saturated with drug residue and the Red Bull can, the chief said.
The can contained 20 small clear plastic zipping-lock bags, and a pill bottle with drug residue.
Lombardi was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with a variety of drug and paraphernalia possession offenses, as well as stolen property and weapons charges.
