Daniel Morgan headed to the exit of the C-Town on Broadway around 3:30 p.m. with five containers of laundry detergent he had not paid for, police said. An employee ordered him to stop as Morgan left the building and ran off.

The employee and a colleague chased Morgan and caught up to him. Morgan charged at the employees and pulled an opened pocket knife but dropped it. The two employees tackled Morgan but he was able to break free and run off.

He was stopped by responding police at 37th Street and Avenue C. Morgan showed false identifying documents to officers, police also said.

He was being held at the Hudson County jail on two warrants as well as charges that also included hindering apprehension.
