ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- Englewood detectives and investigators from the Bergen County prosecutor's office solved a pair of shootings with the arrest of a Teaneck ex-con -- whom a judge ordered held on $1 million, authorities said.

Jamal "Mally" Robinson, 40, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two of armed robbery and various weapons possession offenses, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said late Monday.

The shootings occurred a few days apart -- on July 5 and 7 -- Grewal said.

The first -- which was reported by Daily Voice -- occurred just before 4 a.m. when the victim was shot in the lower leg as he walked out of a Howland Avenue residence, he said.

The victim, who told police he was house-sitting for a friend, said Robinson was wearing a ski mask when he ordered him to "hand it over."

He said he didn't have any money, turned his back and was shot in the lower leg by Robinson, who took the victim's cellphone, car keys and $120 in cash.

A shell casing and slug were analyzed by the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification, the prosecutor said.

At just after 11:30 p.m. July 7, a victim shot in the arm was dropped off at the Englewood Fire Department by a friend who thought it was police headquarters, authorities said.

Detectives traced a blood trail that began at Reade and Orange streets and led to the recovery of five shell casings, Grewal said Monday.
