HAWTHORNE, N.J. -- There was a time when Kerin Briscese of Hawthorne thought about food night and day.

"I reached rock bottom. I was competing and would do hours of cardio and binge and purge. I got on the stage at 120 (pounds) and within months I was 164," the 31-year-old fitness and nutrition pro said of her days as a competitive bikini bodybuilder.

"I was bulimic and made the decision that being skinny wasn’t worth it. I knew I would never do it again. I got back in touch with my body and listened to my body," she added.

For Briscese, getting well was about getting in touch with what made her an emotional eater.

Now fit and healthy, she launched Haute Fitness Health to help other women learn to love their bodies.

She also sees clients at Fitness 121 in Ridgewood.

Women of all ages and sizes have emotional eating issues and unhealthy relationships with food, she noted.

It's not always someone who is obviously obese. It can be someone trying to lose 10 or 20 pounds.

Teens have reached out to her over Instagram wanting to lose weight.

"I teach people to eat for themselves so they can have their optimal body," she said.

"It’s freeing to wake up and not think about food," she added.

Her reach is slowly going global thanks to an active Facebook group that has lead to virtual consultations with women in other countries.

Different cultures handle losing weight differently and the U.S. has portion control problems. But in the end, it's all about results.

“All women want to look great, everywhere," she said.
