There will be four sessions. The first – Cross-Cultural Competence Skills: Bridging Cultural Differences with Respect and Understanding – is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Vantage Health Systems, 2 Park Ave., Dumont.

"This workshop provides professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate effectively across cultural differences in a variety of contexts," said Community Chest's Executive Director Dr. Shelly Wimpfheimer. "The session focuses on ethnic and cultural differences, as well as other dissimilarities, including ability, disability, religion, and sexual orientation. Participants gain an understanding of the dimensions of cultural differences to enable the application of inter-cultural communication skills to various cultural contexts. Attendees may receive continuing education units for their social work licenses."

Dr. Paula Rodriguez, of Rutgers University, will lead the session.

Professional staff in supervisory positions in the nonprofit sector may register for the session, according to Wimpfheimer. There is no charge to participate in the session for staff from agencies funded by The Community Chest, she added.

The cost for staff of other nonprofits is $100 per session. To register, call Wimpfheimer at (201) 568-7474.

Sponsors include The Rotary Club of Englewood, PSE&G, SUEZ and TD Bank.

The Community Chest, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, has supported local not-for-profit agencies in the Englewood area, according to Wimpfheimer.
