"We are working with supporters to build a stronger community by helping to assure that all children in our area have the proper nutrition to develop into productive and self-sufficient adults," said Jennifer Johnson, CFA's director of communication and community outreach.
This year, CFA is offering two shifts: Noon to 2 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Children who receive free or reduced-price school meals often are left without adequate nutrition on the weekends, according to CFA.
The Weekend Snack Pack Program bridges this gap and is one of the many ways CFA is working to reduce local childhood hunger, according to the organization.
CFA hopes to assemble more than 3,000 snack packs on this day. Last year, CFA expanded this program and distributed more than 19,000-weekend snack packs to low-income children in seven area elementary schools.
The minimum suggested donation for each participant is $45 (Children younger than 14 are welcome to pack free of charge).
The $45 will pay for 10 snack packs, according to CFA.
There will be special activities planned for children younger than age 10.
