"Veterans should be recognized more than once a year, so we thought the Zydeco Festival was a perfect opportunity to get our residents excited, while also raising money for our troops," said Rosemarie Gutierrez, director of marketing at Esplanade at Palisades.
The Zydeco Festival honored service veterans, with all proceeds donated to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Charles G. Mueller Chapter 120. This non-profit organization benefits Rockland-based military veterans who have been recognized for their service.
"Having the chance to get to know some of the veterans who live right in our backyard was an amazing opportunity," said Gutierrez. "We wanted to do anything we could to help those who have given us the freedom to put on a great event like the Zydeco Festival."
The festival was headlined by the New York City-based Zydeco Revelators, a country-rock crossover group. The band, which toured the Tri-State area throughout the year, performed their down South sound for residents of Esplanade and guests at the retirement community to enjoy.
In addition to music, the Zydeco Festival hosted dance lessons by Fran Berbette, a nationally recognized dance instructor.
"Our event was a huge success for both our residents and the Purple Heart chapter," said Gutierrez.
Overall, the event raised $455 for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Charles G. Mueller Military Chapter 120.
