Salt Breeze in Fair Lawn and The Salt Cavern in Clifton offer halotherapy, a treatment that basically involves inhaling medical grade, purified Himalayan salt.

Enthusiasts believe salt cave therapy works by opening respiratory passages and reducing inflammation.

"It could be potentially helpful to people with short-term issues, such as a cold, or long-term conditions such as allergies, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder," Salt Breeze website says.

Saddle Brook resident Oksana Sheremeta opened Sea Breeze in Fair Lawn in July 2016 as a way to help her husband cure his sinus problem.

The former nurse said she knew about salt cave therapy from her native Ukraine.

The Salt Cavern owners William and Eva Dunai lived in Clifton for over 30 years when they decided to open their halotherapy center in 2011.

The former European-trained nurse said she was motivated to bring people non-chemical therapies.
