"It's a lot of fun and it is for a great cause," Ralph Currey told Daily Voice. "Pediatric cancer research still does not get as much funding as it should."

The day before Ralph and Nancy Currey's 19-year-old son planned to leave for college, he felt a pain in his side.

Fourteen months later, he died of Ewing sarcoma, a cancer of the bone and soft tissue.

The Curreys established the Nick Currey Fund in his name and have raised more than $1 million for pediatric cancer research the past 11 years.

Their annual tournament attracts more 200 wiffle ballers each year and raises upwards of $20,000.

The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Ridgewood High School, 627 East Ridgewood Avenue.
