The exhibit, featuring photos, record albums, musical instruments and other items, kicks off with a reception from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the historical society's Mackay Park Gatehouse, 130 W. Englewood Ave., Englewood.
From the famous like Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett and John Travolta, to the lesser-known, Englewood has been a base to entertainers from several types of music, including jazz, classical, pop and more.
"We've identified over 160 musicians who lived in Englewood. As we research and talk to people about this music project, we keep discovering new names," said Irmari Nacht, co-president of the historical society. "My dentist just mentioned that Jimi Hendrix lived in the Isley Brothers' house for two years."
This exhibit comes after last year's successful inaugural exhibition at the Mackay Gatehouse called "From Gatehouse to Gateway to Sports: the Story of Mackay Park and Sports in Englewood,: featuring sports items and collectibles. "Last year we had tremendous response to the sports exhibit with visitors coming in every weekend," said Charlotte Bennett Schoen, co-president of the society.
Also, during the Oct. 9 reception, the John T. Wright Ice Arena will open for the season with ice performances and skating for the public. There will also be music performances on the lawn between the gatehouse and the ice arena featuring local (including the high school band) and professional musicians.
The public is invited to all events at no charge, except a $5 skating fee, which includes skate rental.
