In 2015, after a bacteria found in human waste and piping contamination called "coliform" was discovered in their water supply, they invested in a filtration system from water solution company, Aquatal.
The filter has carried them through the discoveries of lead, Chromium-6 and most recently E. coli.
Who's to say what's to turn up next?
All the Israeli couple knows is that they're well-prepared for whatever it is, and they want other New Jersyans to be, too.
“The water has become so unhealthy that people are using five-gallon bottles in their homes,” Adi Oren told Daily Voice.
“You don’t know where they’re sitting, or for how long, or at what temperature. It doesn’t make sense to us.”
Tests in 2015 revealed coliform in the couple's water, and sent a second sample to the lab following the installation of their Aquatal filter.
The results? No coliform — and a bonus rise in pH levels. In other words: Better than before.
Taking over Aquatal's New Jersey market seemed like a no-brainer for the couple.
The Orens are on a mission to bring affordable, healthy water to the region in a time of crisis.
Aquatal — founded by Lior Shafir and his father in Israel in 1972 — specializes in hot and cold, bottle-less water dispensers.
The company pairs its counter top units with specialized filters and dispensers for each territory it services — including India, Mexico, Chile and several more.
Each region has its own system designed to protect against the specific pollutants found in its water supply.
At the push of a button, clients get up to 3,000 gallons of hot and cold water, Michael Oren said.
The company also added award-winning Reverse Osmosis GoldEndless4000 (R.O.) to its fleet of filters, which can remove most anything from the water, partner Erez Zipori said.
What’s left is pure and clean, he said.
"I'm sure the city is doing its best to provide healthy water," Zipori said.
"But when all's said and done, there are some problems and we want to use whatever we know to get better protection for the water."
“The main idea is to bring a new generation of water dispensers to New Jersey,” Oren said. “It’s a dispenser that’s greener and more environmentally friendly. The water is healthier.”
