Micro Earthquake Recorded In NJ Town Along Ramapo Fault: USGS An earthquake was detected in Hunterdon County on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 8, according to the United States Geological Survey, though don't feel bad if you didn't feel anything. The earthquake measured 1.7 on the Richter scale and was recorded at 7 a.m. in Califon, the USGS said. Earthquakes below two on the Richter scale are recorded by seismologists but not felt, and are considered "microearthquakes." A 2.6 aftershock was recorded in Somerset County on Wednesday, April 10, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was recorded 5 km southwest of Gladstone, with more than 430 people telling the USGS they could feel something shaking.  The aftershocks come in the wake of a 4.8 earthquake that originated in Whitehouse Station and shook up the Northeast.
