Evelyn Fashion Furs Inc. owner and Fort Lee resident Tony Tsiknis has been creating, repairing, glazing and refashioning winter wear and accessories for 35 years.
Sales should be higher than ever with Christmas right around the corner, but unusually warm temperatures are making running a profitable business difficult for Tsiknis.
“One customer asked if we could make a bikini out of fur,” said Tsiknis, who sells thousands of .dollars worth of items.
Dozens of different head warmers, and short and full-length coats line the shop walls. But several haven't been on display yet.
“I hope to stay in business," said Tsiknis, originally from Greece.“One summer, we had a busier season than the previous Christmas season. We’ve been slow, but when the temperature drops, sales go up.”
Cliffside Park's roadways have been snow-free — hardly offering an opportunity to wear a piece, but Tsiknis remains hopeful: "I'm trying to stay here," he said.
