"We started about four or five years ago with the partnership with the Boys & Girls Club. Last year, we started this carnival," said Tim Hastings, a volunteer for the Ridgefield Prevention Council.

The weekend carnival had lots of goodies to offer: rides, games, and plenty of good food. Volunteers manned a sizzling grill, cooking up hamburgers and hotdogs, which were served with with cookies, soda and chips. The concession stand dished up the traditional cotton candy, candied apples, and popcorn.

"It was nice to see everyone coming out to support the town that they live in," said Carolyn Knupp, a volunteer for Ridgefield Prevention Council. "It is the biggest fundraiser of the year."

The carnival's proceeds are split between the Ridgefield Prevention Council and the Boys & Girls Club.

The Ridgefield Prevention Council is made up of 100 percent volunteer who are dedicated to educating children and their families about drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

"The council is big on educating kids and spreading the word. I've been with the Ridgefield Prevention Council for about eight years now," said Hastings.
