CRESSKILL, N.J. — The Hungry Peddler's longtime Cresskill location holds a special place in Valerie Smith Barber's heart.
The Knickerbocker Road bar and restaurant is where she met her husband in 1989. They were married until he passed away in 2012.
The joint recently shut its doors at that location, NorthJersey.com reports, and Barber of Dumont is sad to see it go. But she will always carry the memories she made.
"We had such a crew that hung up there," Barber said. "Many laughs made, lots of friends even until this past weekend.
"I'm very sad."
Hungry Peddler owner Steve Saranovic is planning on reopening elsewhere, though he has not disclosed the location, according to NorthJersey.com.
Barber is among many Peddler patrons who will miss the original digs.
Closter's Paul MacDonald frequented the place with his wife and another couple.
"It was a favorite restaurant," MacDonald told Daily Voice. "We liked the food, it was in the neighborhood and we found it enjoyable."
