Celebrate Shelton is a citywide initiative focusing on small businesses and the community that surrounds them.

“This was really something nice to come to. I am new to Shelton, so it was a great way to meet the people in my town,” said Brenda Thomason.

It was started in 2014 by small business owners Michael Skrtic, of The Glass Source, Nicole Heriot-Mikula, of bringtheHoopla as well as Jimmy Tickey.

Shelton Day is also the start of the Downtown Handmade Market season.

The food trucks on site included Falafel on Wheels offering Greek-inspired foods, Anteen with barbecue, Jim’s Soft Serve ice cream, Rita’s Italian Ice, Paradise island & Café, Donut Crazy and more.

“There was so much food. My favorite was the fried Oreos,” says Russ, 8, of Shelton.

In addition to the vendors and the handmade market was a carnival offering traditional rides for kids.

Other vendors included Shelton High School, which was showing off robotics built at school. A local Girl Scout troop showed the community what it does in the town's schools.

Many political booths were set up to inform voters about candidates for Elect Day, which is on Nov.8.

Among the booths, too, was author, Marcela Osello who published the book, "Terry the Thankful Turkey" just in time for Thanksgiving.
