Jamie Novak, the author of “Keep this, Toss That,” and four other books on declutter and organization has appeared on HGTV and QVC is coming in honor of "Organization Month."

She will bring some of her own items to the event to give participants a step-by-step lesson on how to manage home material during a month dedicated towards organization.

“It’s for students, for people who are moving in together who are merging their own clutter," the author said. "A senior who may be downsizing and moving, inherited clutter, a busy mom with lots of children things — there are lots of scenarios and different stages in people’s lives."

“I would set a timer and for five minutes, give it a home and organize, that that gets the ball moving in the right direction.”

Novak has long been her an organization consultant for friends, coworkers and family members.

She worked at a local hospital, and even helped a friend keep a level head while moving. After individuals caught on to her talents, Novak discovered she can turn it into a business and now has dozens clients.

She suggests most should start first with their kitchens - a central area for activities, even those beyond food.

“It’s the heart of the home - it’s the catch-all - it’s multi-purpose room,” she said.

Sorting paper files is one of Novak's top priorities, but she said individuals need help cleaning up their digital lives, too.

"It’s not about changing personal style and habits," she said. "The key is just to start.”
