Butterflake Bake Shop on Cedar Lane makes butter cookies, cakes and breads in the back of the shop before selling them to customers or shipping them off to fans around the country.
“Corporations send us their lists, and we send out a couple of pounds of cookies to each client - we do a lot of business that way,” said J.J. Becker, the operations manager, who has been there for three years. The Morris County resident has packed 300-400 of cookie tins for the holidays so far.
“People call up for a melt-away to be sent to their grandmother. Or their nephew used to live here and they want to ship it because they want a taste of home - we get a lot of that."
Customers also stop by for a nostalgic taste of childhood.
“You don’t think of it as a destination, but people come back to see family," Becker said. "For a lot of people — that’s Butterflake. They have memories of this place from birthdays or visits with their grandfather.
"We’re part of the community."
