Dog Rescue Organization Holding Adoption Event In Hawthorne
HAWTHORNE, N.J.–Grateful Doggies Rescue Retreat members will be at Hawthorne's JB Pet Supplies on Saturday with dogs available for adoption. "Come meet your new best friend," organizers said. To fill out an application for pre-approval and to view the dogs that are up for adoption, click here. "We are having everyone pre-select their dogs and making sure those dogs are at the spot they are picking up from," the organization said in a Facebook post. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. JB Pet Supplies is at 289 Wagaraw Road.

Cadets Graduate From Bogota Emergency Services Academy
BOGOTA, N.J.– The Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy graduated Class 06 (2016) on Tuesday, Aug. 9. The ceremony was held at the Steen School Gymnasium. The cadets presented a close order drill to showcase the focus and discipline they learned over the course of the Academy. Bogota Police Chief Daniel Maye and Bogota Mayor Chris Kelemen addressed the cadets to congratulate them on their achievements. Garfield Library Screens Oscar-Nominated Documentary
GARFIELD, N.J. — There will be a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary "The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner" at the Garfield Library on Tuesday. The 5 p.m. screening will be followed by a discussion. After serving two terms as one of the most popular governors in modern Washington history, Gardner was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Artists and appreciators alike gathered in Van Neste Square for “Art in the Park,” sponsored by Pinot’s Palette and The Ridgewood Guild. Twelve pieces of art were sold to the tunes of Bruce Springsteen, provided by young guitarist Jake Thistle. Artists from Pinot's Palette did face palm noting and painted a large piece on site, as well.

LODI, N.J. — Police officers and civilians alike spent their Tuesday evening Memorial Park for Lodi's National Night Out. The event is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Lodi locals met representatives from the Lodi's police and fire departments, and several community-based organizations. Children explored the fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. The night culminated with a showing of "Zootopia."

Maywood Police Warn Residents Of Rabid Raccoon
MAYWOOD, N.J. -- The Maywood Police Department is warning residents of a rabid raccoon that was recently found in the borough. The sick animal was found at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 404 Maywood Ave. Authorities remind residents that rabies is a fatal viral disease if untreated. Any mammal can carry rabies, if infected. A rabid animal may act aggressive, friendly, active or lazy. They urged people not to feed, handle or approach wild or unknown animals, including cats and kittens. LYNDHURST, N.J. -- Before the skies opened on Saturday, 100 or so children and parents enjoyed the 7th annual Butterfly Day at DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst. Together, they learned about butterflies, their habitats, and the plants that attract them. There were butterfly walks featuring experts at various locations in the park -- and a monarch presentation. Fitness Zumbathon Raises Breast Care Awareness
MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Dozens of participants -- from five to 70 years old -- got to move to great music for a worthy cause Saturday during the inaugural Zumbathon for Breast Cancer Awareness at HackensackUMC Fitness and Wellness in Maywood. The event offered zumba sessions, along with information and a question-and-answer session with breast health staff. 'Music Under Stars' Draws Crowds To Lyndhurst
The 27th annual Music Under The Stars summer concert series brings the Bronx Wanderers to Lyndhurst on Aug. 3. BOGOTA, N.J. -- Recruits for the Bogota Emergency Services Youth Academy had their physical abilities assessed Thursday as part of their possible entry into the program, which officially begins with orientation Friday at the Bixby School.The cadets went through a series of exercises that give directors a baseline of each's individual strengths.
