Violetta Berisha will serve out the unexpired three-year term of the late Councilman John Rossi, which began Jan. 1.
"I look forward to working together with all of you to stabilize taxes, keep our streets safe and clean and work to improve the overall quality of life for all Fairview residents," Berisha told her colleagues after being sworn to office at Borough Hall by state Sen. Nicholas Sacco, who is also neighboring North Bergen's mayor.
"I am hopeful that I could be part of the redevelopment of Anderson Avenue, as well as other sections of town that have been in the planning stages for awhile," she said.
Other attendees included state Assemblywoman Angie Jiminez, Bergen County Freeholder Chairwoman Tracy Zur, county Democratic Chairman Lou Stellato and county Clerk John Hogan.
Rossi was a council member from 1985 to 1981 and from 1993 until his death last month.
He "served the borough as a councilman with honor," Berisha said. "I can only hope to continue the good work he has done throughout the years on the council."
She also thanked her mom and family -- especially her children, Valentino and Sophia, "for being great kids and for providing so much support to me always."
