BOGOTA — Two days after an unsuccessful mayoral challenge, Bogota Councilwoman Lisa Kohles resigned.

"Certainly time to move on," Kohles wrote on her Facebook page. "I have a lot to look forward to, especially my new granddaughter.

Kohles, a Democrat, didn't attend the Nov. 5 council meeting at which her resignation was announced, effective immediately.

The resignation letter included references to "cheap shots" that she said the Republicans took at her team.

Fellow Democratic incumbent Robert Robbins also was defeated, while Kohles loss to incumbent Mayor Chris Kelemen.

The "Believe in Bogota" slate of Kelemen, incumbent Councilwoman Daniele Fede and newcomers Francisco Miranda and Michael Connors boosted the council's Republican majority to 5-1.

After reorganizing at the beginning of 2016, the newly-constituted council must agree on a Democrat to serve out Kohles' term.
