CLIFFSIDE PARK, N.J. -- A lifelong resident of Cliffside Park, Paul J. Elia died Aug. 17. He was 89.
He was born March 18, 1927, in Rome, N.Y. and was a U.S. Naval veteran of World War II. He had owned and operated Lombardi & Elia General Contracting.
Elia also was a councilman for 24 years in Cliffside Park, police commissioner for 24 years in Cliffside Park, director of general services for Bergen County for six years and team captain in football and track in Cliffside Park.
He was the husband of 69 years of Helen (nee) Lombardi; father of Paul Elia and his wife Patricia, Bruce Elia and his wife Sasha, Janice Sinisi and her husband Dominic and William Elia and his wife Elizabeth; grandfather of 12; and great-grandfather of 10.
There will be a funeral at 8 a.m. Saturdat at the A.K. Macagna Funeral Home, 495 Anderson Ave., Cliffside Park, thence to Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Fairview for a 9 a.m. funeral Mass. Cremation will be private. The family will receive their friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
