Winfield, who lives in Teaneck, turns 64 Saturday.

Winfield, a Hall of Fame baseball player from St. Paul, Minn., was born Oct. 3, 1951.

A multi-sport athlete, Winfield chose baseball over football and basketball (he was drafted by professional teams in all three sports) and went on to have a Hall-of-Fame career with the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, California Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians.

He is a 12-time all-star and seven-time winner of the league’s Gold Glove Award.

Winfield retired with a .283 batting average to go along with 3,110 hits and 465 home runs.

He won a World Series in 1992 with the Blue Jays.

The former outfielder is known for his philanthropic side, including work with his David M. Winfield Foundation, which gives to local communities.
