On Monday, Feb. 10, at approximately 10:52 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Cedar Lane and arrested Ross Daniels-Lynn, 18, of Teaneck, after discovering he was carrying an illegal firearm, Teaneck Police Chief Andrew R. McGurr said.

Following an ongoing investigation, authorities charged Daniels-Lynn with additional weapons and drug offenses and arrested the vehicle’s owner, Serenity Griffith, 18, of Maywood, police said.

At the time of the initial stop, Griffith was seated in the front passenger seat, identified, and released pending further investigation, according to Teaneck police. Her 2009 Hyundai Genesis was impounded and towed, as investigators suspected more firearms or contraband might be inside, police said.

On Feb. 14, officers executed a court-approved search warrant, leading to the discovery of a .40-caliber Glock handgun with its serial and model numbers defaced, according to Teaneck police. The firearm was loaded with hollow-point bullets, police said.

Authorities also recovered suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and packaging materials used for drug distribution, along with a small amount of suspected Ecstasy (MDMA), according to Teaneck police.

The firearm was sent to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation for analysis, while the suspected drugs were submitted to the New Jersey State Police Drug Laboratory for testing, police said.

As a result of the investigation, Daniels-Lynn faced additional charges, and on Feb. 20, Griffith was arrested and remanded to Bergen County Jail, police said.

Both were charged with the following offenses, according to Teaneck police:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Handgun (2nd Degree)
  • Possession of a Handgun While Distributing CDS (2nd Degree)
  • Distribution of Marijuana (3rd Degree)
  • Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy) (3rd Degree)
  • Distribution of CDS Within 1,000 Feet of a School (3rd Degree)
  • Possession of a Defaced Firearm (4th Degree)
  • Possession of Hollow-Point Bullets (4th Degree)
  • Possession of Drug Distribution Paraphernalia (4th Degree)

Daniels-Lynn, already in custody at Bergen County Jail, was formally served with the additional complaints, according to Teaneck police.

Authorities urge anyone with information on illegal firearms or related activity to contact the Teaneck Police Department at 201-837-2600 or submit anonymous tips through Bergen Crime Stoppers at www.bergencrimestoppers.org or 844-466-6789, police said.
