BOGOTA, N.J. -- Auditions for a community theater production take place on Saturday at the Bogota Recreation Center.

Bogota Beautiful will hold an open call audition and plans to stage this first performance to gauge the interest of having community theater in the borough.

The first performance will tentatively be " High School Musical."

The audition calls are from 9-11 a.m. and 8-10 p.m.

The idea for community theater sprung from Bogota Beautiful co-founder Isabel Bustamante, 32.

"It's always been a passion of mine and it turns out, it's been on everyone's mind. It passed unanimously last week," she said.

Any project brought before Bogota Beautiful must meet the organization's mission and pass a vote.

She estimates about 80 people will be needed, from a choreographer and director, to lighting and stage hands. The cast has 18 people.

Anyone interested in auditioning for the cast must be prepared to sing a number from "High School Musical" and recite a two minute monologue. People also will be taught a brief dance number.

Bogota Beautiful was started in 2014 by Isabel's husband Amaru, 41, following a project she did to get planters in the downtown area.

"Projects usually take on a life on their own and form their own committees," she said.

Yoga in the park is winding down, a community garden was recently launched and a home beautification contest is in progress.

Funding a musical production can cost thousands and Bustamante is already knocking on doors.

"We need sponsors so that's a challenge. The library is going to help us and we asked the borough for assistance," she said.

Auditions are open to all Bogota residents. Anyone under 18 must have a parent's or guardian's permission.

Date and location of the production will be determined at a later time.
