At about noon Wednesday, North Wildwood firefighters responded to a structure fire at 217 E. 24th Ave. in North Wildwood, according to Fire Chief Dominick J. McClain.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home and reports of an occupant inside on oxygen, McClain said.

The fire was extinguished within a few minutes and the situation was placed under control, McClain said. All occupants escaped safely, he said. Police officers removed the oxygen bottles from the dwelling, he said.

Two patients were treated for smoke inhalation. One was treated and released at the fire scene and the other was taken to Cape Regional Medical Hospital by Wildwood Crest Rescue, McClain said.

There is no update on the patient's health at this time, but McClain said the victim appeared to be in stable condition.

The fire is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshall's Office.
