Probable Tornado Touched Down In Camden County

A probable tornado touched down in South Jersey early Thursday, June 9, according to the National Weather Service.

Trees fell on several homes in Camden County due to strong winds, authorities said.

Residents of Blackwood and Gloucester Township reported widespread storm damage due to the possible tornado.

At approximately 5;17 a.m., Gloucester Township police received several 9-1-1 calls by residents that were reporting storm damage to their homes. 

One resident reported a large tree had fallen over and went through the roof of their residence. 

Officers arrived and found approximately five residences in the Deer Park Development, located in the Sicklerville section of Gloucester Township, had storm-related damage. Officers also observed numerous trees knocked down onto several parked vehicles and some were blocking the roadway.

Local police along with firefighters from Lambs Terrace & Pine Hill Fire Departments went door-to-door to check on the residents and it was determined that there were no injuries. 

Damage to residences included several trees knocked down onto the roofs, as well as one residence, where a tree fell through the roof and into the living room area of the home, police said.

Electric power to the development had also been knocked out.

The Gloucester Township Public Works Department cleared a large amount of debris and the roadway was reopened.
