Gov. Phil Murphy signed the flag order on Monday, Feb. 6.

“It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Eunice Dwumfour,” Murphy said in a statement. “Her death is a tragic loss for her family, friends, the Sayreville community, and our state.

Dwumfour, 30, was found fatally shot outside her home on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Her public memorial service is on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at Epic Church International in Sayreville.

Dwumfour was found shot dead in a car outside her home at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutor has not disclosed a motive or any suspects in the killing.

Dwumfour, a Republican, had finished the first year of a three-year term. She is survived by a daughter and new husband, Eze Kings. He is a pastor from Nigeria.

On Thursday, the day after the shooting, there is a happy birthday wish to his wife, a month early, on Kings' Facebook page: "4th March is your birthday happy glorious birthday in addy my love 💕💕"

Kings posted photos of the couple on his Facebook account on Monday with a new message: “My angel I promised to see you in May,” Kings wrote. “I know you breath (sic) through me I will continue to celebrate you as I have promised you I missed you my love.”

"Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour was taken from us far too soon," Murphy said on Twitter. "Tammy and I are praying for those who knew and loved her as they grieve during this difficult time."
