Teaneck Walgreens Construction Moves Ahead TEANECK, N.J. -- Site preparation is underway for a new, two-story Walgreens at the corner of Cedar Lane and Elm Avenue in Teaneck. As of late last week, excavating to prepare for foundation-pouring was proceeding in spite of a thick cover of snow and frozen earth crust. Bergenfield Teacher Nicole Bischoff Named Distinguished Educator BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Bergenfield's fourth grade Hoover Elementary School teacher Nicole Bischoff has been named a Renaissance Distinguished Educator. IRS Phone Scammer Caught By Leonia Police Facing Deportation LEONIA, N.J. -- An Indian national busted by a Leonia detective in a $170,000 IRS phone scam that claimed 70 victims in 32 states was sentenced Friday to time served in exchange for a guilty plea and a promise to cooperate with prosecutors. Her lawyer said that Nikita Patel, 25, "plans to stay in the area and go back to school.” But the INS has placed a deportation detainer on her, so she must remain in the Bergen County Jail for now. Leonians Advised To Clean Sidewalks Thoroughly LEONIA, N.J. -- Police Chief Tom Rowe is asking residents to abide by a borough law requiring sidewalks to be thoroughly cleaned. "Borough Ordinance 247-17 requires a property owner to clear the entire width of the the sidewalk from edge to edge," Rowe said in a post on town message boards. "If your sidewalk is not cleaned edge to edge, please shovel it thoroughly so that pedestrians are not forced to walk in the street." Judge Sets $5M Bail For Accused Killer Of Midland Park Mom HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A delegation of Midland Park police officers stood against a courtroom wall as a judge in Hackensack set $5 million bail Thursday morning for a disgraced former NYPD officer accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death in her driveway.
