NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- The New Milford School District has invested in an automated visitor check in system, which was be implemented in each of the school buildings in January.

The system is built on the idea that every school should be a safe place to learn, play, and work.

With the new system in place, the district is implementing a new set of protocols for visitors at all buildings:

All visitors must present an official photo ID. A driver's license or other state identity card issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent), passport or alien registration card.

Visitor IDs will pass through a scanner in the main office or security office of each building. The scanner then automatically conducts background checks.

Visitors will be issued a personalized ID sticker, which must be worn at all times while in the building. Visitors must check out upon leaving the building.

Special convenience accommodations will also be in place for those dropping off items such as lunch, books, gym clothes, money, etc. Parents will receive those guidelines directly from school principals.
