“Hey, sexy, do you want a cigarette?” an Englewood Cliffs realtor asked a 16-year-old Fort Lee High School student whom he'd stalked for two weeks, said police who arrested him.

Chayim (Michael) Shvarzblat, 32, approached the girl during five different lunch breaks, offering her a cigarette each time, Capt. Matthew Hintze said Wednesday.

Each time, she ignored him and returned to school, Hintze said.

The first time was the week of Jan. 7, the captain said.

On Jan. 22, he said, Shvarzblat followed the girl into the neighboring ACME supermarket on Lemoine Avenue, approached her in an aisle, and "invited her into his vehicle in order to smoke a cigarette.

“He later exited and several minutes later re-entered the premises with no apparent intent to make a purchase and in search of the juvenile,” Hintze said.

Police were contacted after the junior told her principal what happened.

The girl was being driven to school by her mother the morning of Feb. 4 when she spotted him sitting in his car at the George Washington Bridge Plaza shopping center facing the ACME parking lot, Hintze said.

They called police with a description of both him and his four-door 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

The next morning, Fort Lee police stopped Shvarzblat, a married realtor from Lakewood, the captain said.

Shvarzblat has worked in the family business, Walker & Dunlop, as an assistant vice president out of the company's Englewood Cliffs office since the fall of 2017, records show.

Fort Lee police charged him with stalking and providing cigarettes to a juvenile and released him pending a March 12 appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

“While it is unfortunate that this occurred, it is a good example of a teenager telling an adult in school what occurred and then the school staff working closely with the school resource officers,” Police Chief Keith Bendul said

Anyone who might have had a similar encounter with Shvarzblat or has information that would help the investigation is asked to contact Detective Jesus Sanchez at (201) 592-3700, ext. 5302 or at .
