YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Witnesses told New Milford police they saw a blue or green SUV or pickup truck speed from a failed break-in at the Welsh Farms store late last night.

Welsh Farms, New Milford

Although the front door was badly damaged, whoever was responsible got only as far as the lobby of the Henley Avenue building, New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Criminal Identificaiton Unit collected evidence, along with New Milford Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci.

One possible witness reported seeing “a green or blue SUV leave the area at a high rate of speed,” Papapietro said. “A second witness described an older model green or blue pickup truck parked alongside the store occupied by two individuals (one male and one female), bearing NY license plates.”

Police summoned the owner, but the lock was too badly damaged to get in, the chief said.
