BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- A 71-year-old Bergenfield resident said an intruder beat him, tied his hands and fled with $10 and a debit card Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for a gash on his head and released, Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.
He told police he walking upstairs to his bedroom around 3 p.m. when the intruder -- tall, thin and white, wearing a gray sweater with black winter cap -- came down the steps.
After being assaulted and bound, the victim said he rushed out.
"The poor man came to my house all bloodied looking for help," Sunset Place neighbor Gwen Ullnick Hill said. "[He] got beat up bad."
A Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit helped local police search the area, with negative results, Rabboh said.
An investigation so far "has not confirmed or ruled out the incident as an interrupted burglary or any other incident," the captain said. "Detectives are following all potential leads."
